Risk Management: Environmental Health and Safety (Full-Time, Day Shift) -

The Emergency Management Specialist coordinates emergency planning initiatives for LLUH. Takes a leading role with the development, management and education of a comprehensive Emergency Operation Plan (EOP) and Emergency Management program, which ensures preparedness for disaster events as well as compliance with applicable regulations for specific companies within LLUH. Collaborates with the LLUSS Emergency Management team for the development, implementation, monitoring and updates of specific Emergency Management Programs; acts as the liaison to other Emergency Management and Preparedness leadership; works with LLUSS Emergency Management team to monitor preparedness activities and in-service training in Emergency Management and critiques disaster drills. Performs other duties as needed.


Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field required. Minimum of two years of experience in emergency preparedness program planning or emergency/safety management required. Experience in hospital setting which has provided opportunity to demonstrate competencies in leadership, administrative, education, and/or staff development preferred. Minimum of one year experience in an academic, hospital or research environment, including exposure to codes, standards and regulations applicable to emergency management required. Minimum two additional years of experience in emergency management or disaster preparedness, with high school diploma or GED, may be accepted in lieu of degree. Certification in ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 required. Certificate program in emergency management or disaster preparedness preferred.


Knowledge of emergency management and requirements of regulatory agencies on elements of performance required. Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access; operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary to the position.
