High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum three years of experience in HCC Coding for Physician services required. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and Certified Risk Adjustment Coding (CRC) from American Academy of Processional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) required. Must maintain current certification.

Comprehensive understanding of the contents of a typical electronic medical record, medical terminology, abbreviations, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding conventions. Expertise in CMS Risk Adjustment Processing System (RAPS) for Medicare Advantage Plans, and medical coding, including but not limited to E/M, ICD-9 and ICD-10, CPT, and HCC coding. . Analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access; operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide education; be assertive; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively, think critically, work independently, perform basic math/ statistical functions, manage multiple assignments, compose written material. Able to work well under pressure, problem solve, prioritize workload, and recall information with accuracy. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position. Must be confident in communication with physicians for discussion of diagnoses and risk adjustment coding.
